My name is Carmen Glasser. I am a Certified Infant Swimming Resource Instructor and Master Instructor Candidate. I have been teaching the ISR technique since March 2007. I have trained over 200 children to become aquatic problem solvers. Florida is unique in that multiple bodies of water such as swimming pools, lakes, canals, drainage ditches, and the ocean surround us. This is a constant driving force motivating me to teach children so that they have a chance of survival in the water if they do accidentally enter on their own.

I first learned of the ISR technique in June 2006 when I entered my son, Christian, in the program. I was so proud to watch him learn and succeed at what seemed to be such difficult concepts and tasks. It was truly amazing that my little baby was learning so much and engaging with his environment independently. He could not even feed himself, but he could save his life if he fell in the water! I was so moved by this experience that I decided to become a certified instructor. Thanks to the ISR training, Christian is now an amazing little swimmer! I taught our second child last season, and he has taken after his brother amazing everyone with his swim-float-swim!

Before becoming an ISR instructor, I served in the military as an officer in the United States Navy. My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Oceanography from the Naval Academy. My last duty station was at Pearl Harbor at the Meteorological and Oceanographic center. My life experiences and training have equipped me to become a well qualified instructor with great attention to detail as well as compassion and understanding for my students and their parents. I love teaching and engaging with infants and toddlers in the aquatic environment. I also enjoy watching my students progress with their skills and gaining confidence in themselves. The parents’ reactions are equally exiting and gratifying. It has been, and continues to be a privilege to teach the ISR technique.

As a child, I was a "water baby" and some of my earliest and greatest memories of being in the water were snorkeling with my father. In high school, I was on the varsity swim and dive team, was a lifeguard, and also taught swimming to preschoolers. Since then I have become a certified SCUBA diver, an avid surfer, and a water sports enthusiast. I continue to have a great respect and admiration for the ocean.

I am also a certified American Heart Association Instructor of CPR and First Aid training. I provide CPR & First Aid instruction to families interested in learning this life saving skill.  Please visit my website at www.LifePreserversofBrevard.com for more information.

My 2011 swim season has ended, and I will resume teaching in March 2012.  I teach ISR from Indialantic between the hours of 09:00 am -1:00 pm. Lessons are Monday-Friday and scheduled in 15 minute intervals Please contact me if you have any questions about lessons, the ISR technique, or CPR & First Aid Training.
