My name is Ginger Blackman and I've been a Brevard County resident for 29 years. I live in Merritt Island with my husband and three children. We enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities including offshore fishing, airboating, skiing, snorkeling, diving and hunting.
I discovered ISR when researching local swimming classes for my then 2 year old daughter after becoming very dissatisfied with the progress we had made with a variety of swim programs that she had been enrolled in. Being surrounded by water where we live, combined with all the water activities that we enjoy, I felt that it was imperative that she learn the skills she needed to survive should she ever need them.
After doing my research, I located an ISR Instructor, Lisa Persse in Rockledge, and quickly enrolled my daughter. In a few short weeks she was amazing me with her new life-saving skills. She could swim-float-swim herself all over the pool at two years old. I was hooked! I was so impressed with the scientific approach and the amazing results that I decided to become an ISR Instructor myself and join in ISR's mission “To Prevent Drowning and Enrich the Lives of Children by Teaching Them to Swim”.
I have a degree in Computer Science and have also studied Child Behavior and Psychology, Early Childhood Development, Marine Biology and Oceanography. I am Red Cross Certified in CPR and First Aid.
I love working with children and consider it a great privilege to be able to dedicate myself to such a worthy cause.
I teach from my screened, heated pool in Newfound Harbor in Merritt Island, across from Super Wal-Mart on 520. My fall schedule is 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. I will not be accepting new students after mid-September, so please register as soon as possible to ensure you get in before I break for winter and resume again in March 2009.
